Miami Dolphin’s Pharaoh Brown’ Shares His Playbook for Marriage: Date Nights, Teamwork and Faith

NFL Miami Dolphins tight end Pharaoh Brown and his bride, Celestina, on their wedding day.

Balancing the demands of professional sports with family life is no easy feat, yet Miami Dolphins tight end Pharaoh Brown makes it look effortless.

In our exclusive interview, Brown—who has played for the Cleveland Browns, Houston Texans and New England Patriots—shares the values that keep him grounded, his devotion as a husband and father, and his candid insights on balance, resilience and the importance of staying true to yourself.

SIGNATURE BRIDE: How do you balance the demands of an NFL career with your marriage?

Pharaoh Brown: It’s a daily thing. Communication never ends. I have to be able to shut the door on work once I am home. I never take work or its energy home with me. At home I am a husband and a dad; I am not the football player. I am a work in progress, but I make sure I am present in the moment. I am intentional.

SB: How do you and your wife stay connected during the season, especially with travel and training?

PB: On my off days I am hanging out with the family. When I must travel there are times that I bring my wife and kids with me.

SB: How do you prioritize family time with such a demanding schedule?

PB: Off-season I do school drop-off and pickup three times a week. I am engaging when I am at home. My wife, Celestina, and I have a set date night every week.

SB: How important is communication in balancing work, celebrity and marriage?

PB: Having a good wife; that is my strong suit. Everything happens so fast. I am always on the move. She pulls communication out of me. She helps me with everything. She is my best friend. When I am home or we are on a date, we don’t talk business—it’s all about having fun. At home, she will leave notes and voice recorded messages reminding me of things I need to do.

SB: How do you handle tough losses or stressful moments with your partner?

PB: Being there for each other. Being grounded. We’ve been through a lot of adversity. Not a lot phases us as a couple. We don’t have bad days, maybe bad moments, and during these times we use communication strategies. I like to hide mini cards around the house for Celestina to find.

SB: What role does Celestina play in helping you stay grounded off the field?

PB: She bosses me around all day!

SB: How do you handle disagreements or tough conversations?

PB: I walk away, then come back to it. We don’t argue with the kids present. We don’t really argue much, but when I do walk away and come back, the argument is dead. Making up is much better!

SB: What role does faith or personal values play in strengthening your marriage?

PB: We grew up differently. God is a personal connection. It’s our moral compass. I am not religious but I believe in the book and in God. We believe in our spiritual journey.

SB: Any boundaries to make sure football doesn’t take over your personal life?

PB: The kids turn it off. My attention is on them and being a father.

SB: What are some non-negotiable things you do to keep your marriage strong?

PB: Date night every week. We don’t go to bed angry or mad. There is no couch sleeping.

SB: What’s the best piece of relationship advice you’ve received that helps you maintain a strong marriage?

PB: There was no advice. We were together for eight or nine years before we moved in together. We took it slow. Then, COVID-19 happened and it worked out. We got married in 2022.

SB: What lessons have you learned about relationships from playing in the NFL and what values from football do you bring into the family life?

PB: Sport is the greatest teacher of life. We are more connected as humans than we are apart. The NFL brings people together from all walks of life. We have to learn to work together as a team, communicate and respect each other. Those are the values I try to instill at home: never give up, work as a team, respect, discipline and punctuality.

SB: Tell us how you decompress and stay mentally strong.

PB: Knowing who I am and being grounded. God put me here to be who I am. I am walking in who I am. Being me is enough. I am a simple person. I keep it simple.

SB: What’s one lesson you’ve learned about relationships since being married?

PB: That I really love my wife. Respect, listening and communication are key. I am the boss of the bosses—my two kids say they are the bosses. Celestina is the CEO.

SB: What advice would you give to engaged and recently married men trying to balance their career and personal life?

PB: Listen to your partner. It’s so simple yet so difficult to do. It is not your own show as when you were single. Let your partner lead on some things and let them have input. You need to work as a team. It will pay off in dividends in the end.
