In the world of professional football, where grueling schedules, constant travel and public scrutiny are par for the course, maintaining a strong, grounded personal life—and marriage—can be its own kind of victory. For Lawrence Guy—NFL defensive end, Super Bowl champion and devoted husband—love isn’t just a word tossed around in postgame interviews. It’s the cornerstone of a life built on purpose, marriage and partnership.
Off the field, Guy is a two-time Walter Payton Man of the Year nominee and an Alan Page Community Award finalist, reflecting his deep commitment to service. Together with his wife, Andrea, he founded the Lawrence Guy Family Foundation, which supports underserved families through back-to-school drives, holiday events and its signature Baby Shower Bash—an initiative that provides essential items like strollers, car seats and diapers to expectant mothers in need.
SIGNATURE BRIDE sat down with the powerhouse athlete to talk about the heart behind the helmet: his love for Andrea, and their four children; how he nourishes his marriage and family; and how he and Andrea are building something lasting off the field.
SIGNATURE BRIDE: What’s the best relationship advice you’ve learned during your NFL career?
Lawrence Guy: Protect your marriage like your career—intentionally, consistently and with heart.
SB: The NFL season is intense with long hours and travel—how do you make time for your wife and family?
LG: It’s all about intentionality. Even in the busiest weeks, I carve out time—FaceTime calls, quick check-ins, and when I’m home, I’m fully present. Andrea and the kids deserve that.
SB: What has been the biggest challenge in balancing your marriage with your career?
LG: Time. There’s never enough of it. But we’ve learned to value quality over quantity and protect the time we do get together.
SB: How do you and your wife stay connected during the season, especially on road games?
LG: We talk every day. Whether it’s a voice note, a prayer together or pictures of the kids. Those little touchpoints mean everything.
SB: Do you have any traditions or routines that help keep your relationship strong?
LG: We check in every Sunday night—just us. It’s our chance to talk honestly and stay grounded, no matter how chaotic the week has been.
SB: What sacrifices has Andrea made to support your NFL career?
LG: She’s put her own dreams on hold and managed a lot solo while I’m on the road. I try to honor that daily—with love, support and making space for her dreams, too.
SB: How do you two make big life or career decisions together?
LG: We talk, we pray and we decide as a team. Always “we,” never “me.”
SB: How do you and Andrea maintain good communication during stressful times?
LG: We’re open with each other. We talk things out, even when it’s uncomfortable. That honesty has strengthened our bond.
SB: How do you resolve conflicts in your marriage?
LG: We listen first. Sometimes we take a step back to cool off, but we always come back with love and respect.
SB: Andrea has been vocal about supporting you. How has she helped you through the highs and lows of your career?
LG: She’s been my foundation. Whether I am on a new team or coming back from injury, she’s kept me steady with her love and her belief in me.
SB: What role does your faith or values play in your marriage?
LG: Faith is everything. It’s our foundation, our compass. It keeps us united and focused on what truly matters.
SB: After a demanding season, how do you and Andrea reconnect as a couple?
LG: We usually take a trip together. It’s a time to breathe, laugh and just be us again—without the noise.
SB: What’s your favorite way to unwind together when football isn’t the focus?
LG: A good meal, a quiet night at home, maybe a show after the kids go to bed. We love the simple stuff.
SB: How does your marriage evolve during the off-season?
LG: It slows down. We reconnect, we reflect, and we get back to dreaming together. It’s our time to grow deeper.
SB: Do you and Andrea set relationship goals in the off-season?
LG: Yes—date nights, family plans, even spiritual goals. We use that time to get in sync.
SB: What’s something new you’ve learned about your wife during the off-season?
LG: Her creativity blows me away. Whether it’s something for the kids or her own projects, she brings light into our home.
SB: How do you juggle football, marriage and parenting four kids?
LG: Teamwork. Andrea and I support each other, and I do my best to be fully present when I’m home. It’s not easy, but it’s worth it.
SB: How do you spend quality time as a family?
LG: Beach days, movie nights, park time—we make memories through the everyday moments.
SB: How do you make up for the time lost during the season?
LG: When I’m home, I’m all in. I make time for school drop-offs, bedtime routines and whatever they need. It’s about being intentional.
SB: What lessons from football do you want to instill in your children?
LG: Discipline, resilience and the value of being a good teammate—on and off the field.
SB: How do you stay present for your family during the season?
LG: Boundaries. When I’m home, I’m focused on them. No distractions. They deserve my full attention.
SB: Do you create new family traditions in the off-season?
LG: Absolutely. We try new things, take trips and spend time with extended family. Those memories last forever.
SB: How do you balance relaxing with staying engaged as a dad and husband?
LG: It’s a rhythm. I rest when I need to, but I stay plugged in—because this season of life with young kids doesn’t last forever.
SB: What would you tell newly married men trying to balance love and career?
LG: Prioritize your partner. Don’t let your career take all of you. Keep showing up in the small ways.
SB: How do you see your marriage and family evolving after football?
LG: More time together, more memories, more adventures. I look forward to being fully present in the next chapter with Andrea and the kids.
